WBCS Report: Coaching Centre Culture in Bengal

Siliguri, 21 June:
The growing dependence on coaching centres in Bengal has sparked a debate over the quality and direction of mainstream education. From Class VI to competitive exams, students are increasingly turning to private tuitions and commercial coaching institutes.
Many students in Siliguri, Kolkata, and Malda attend coaching classes even before school hours or late into the evening, leaving little time for rest or recreation. This pressure-oriented culture often sidelines creative thinking and overall development.
While coaching centres promise guaranteed results, they put enormous financial pressure on middle-class families. Government schools are losing their relevance as students attend only for attendance.
Educationists argue that this parallel education system must be regulated. A strong, well-trained school system is necessary to reduce the growing dependence on external coaching.
