Kolkata, 12 January:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping the global job market. In India, sectors like banking, manufacturing, agriculture, and logistics are increasingly adopting AI-based automation. A study by McKinsey Global predicts that by 2030, nearly 20 million jobs in India may be restructured or replaced by AI.

In IT and BPO sectors, repetitive tasks are already being automated through chatbots and machine learning algorithms. However, the demand for AI-related skills such as data analysis, programming (Python, R), and cognitive computing is rising.

Challenges include lack of AI training in college syllabi, urban-rural skill gap, and fear of job loss among the middle class. The National Education Policy 2020 proposes integrating AI in school education, but implementation remains slow.

Experts suggest that rather than resisting automation, India should focus on reskilling and upskilling, ensuring inclusive AI literacy, and promoting entrepreneurship in tech-driven domains.
