Public Awareness on Vaccination in Bengal | WBCS Health Report 2025

By Staff Reporter
Darjeeling, 28 March:

West Bengal has achieved nearly 90% coverage for routine immunisation, but vaccine hesitancy persists, particularly for newer vaccines like HPV, adult TB, and COVID-19 boosters. This problem is acute in certain rural, tribal, and tea garden regions.

Misinformation through social media, religious misconceptions, and fear of side effects are major barriers. Initiatives like Mission Indradhanush, intensified pulse polio campaigns, and school-based awareness programs have been launched. Yet, sustained community involvement and health literacy remain key to success.

Experts suggest stronger partnership between local panchayats, health workers, and civil society to build trust and dispel myths through consistent engagement.

A WBCS 2025 health report on public awareness of vaccination in Bengal, highlighting challenges, data, and current health initiatives.
