“পিয়ানোর সুর আমি বুঝে উঠতে পারলাম না, তাই তার সঙ্গে তাল রাখা সম্ভব হল না।
তাহলে এখন কী আমার কর্তব্য?
গল্পের সন্ন্যাসী ইঁদুর তাড়াবার জন্য বেড়াল পুষেছিলেন,
পরে গোরু পুষেছিলেন বেড়ালকে দুধ খাওয়াবার প্রয়োজনে,
মানুষ রেখেছিলেন গোরুকে দেখাশোনার জন্য এবং সংসার বাড়িয়েছিলেন এইভাবেই।
ওই সন্ন্যাসীর সংসারের মতো আমার আকাঙ্ক্ষাগুলিও বেড়ে চলছিল।
আমার মনে হল, পাশ্চাত্য সংগীতের জন্য ঠিক কান তৈরি করতে হলে আমার বেহালা বাজানো শেখা দরকার।”

“I could not follow the piano and hence found it impossible to keep time.
What then was I to do?
The recluse in the fable kept a cat to keep off the rats,
and then a cow to feed the cat with milk,
and a man to take care of the cow—and so on.
My ambitions also grew like the family of the recluse.
I thought, I should learn to play a violin in order to cultivate an ear for Western music.”
