WBCS Report: Unemployment Among Educated Youth in West Bengal
By Staff Reporter
Kolkata, 20 June:
West Bengal is facing a growing crisis of unemployment among educated youth. Despite holding degrees in arts, science, commerce, and even technical fields, lakhs of young people are still struggling to find suitable employment.
Government job vacancies are limited, and the private sector remains underdeveloped in many parts of the state. Many youth prepare for years for competitive exams like WBCS or SSC, leading to frustration and anxiety due to repeated delays and uncertainty.
The mismatch between education and employable skills is also a key factor. Lack of practical training, career counseling, and awareness about entrepreneurship adds to the crisis.
Experts recommend promoting skill-based education, creating more MSMEs, and encouraging start-ups with state support. Without addressing this issue, the state’s youth dividend may turn into a demographic burden.
